Seminar: Peace Building and Post-Conflict Reconstruction in Yemen

We would like to welcome you to a public seminar on the current situation and future of Yemen at the University of Helsinki on November 25, 2022. The seminar will focus on peace-building in Yemen and Finland’s role in the process.

Susanne Dahlgren, a researcher specialized in Yemen, will give a presentation on the background of the war, and Yemeni specialists Abdullah Alosaimi and Adel Dashela will present on the latest developments of the conflict. In his speech, Finland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will address Finland’s role in assisting Yemen. The final session of the seminar is a hybrid format panel discussion with the topic Tasks ahead in Yemeni peace building. The panelists are Yemen’s former Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abu Bakr Al-Qirbi (General Congress party, PGC), the Ansar Allah representative Ambassador Abdulelah M. Hajar, parliament representative of al-Islah party Dr Najeeb Ghanem and the UK representative of the Southern Transitional Council Salih Alnoud.

The seminar is organized by the Finnish Institute in the Middle East together with Nordic Mercy Relief, University of Helsinki, Tampere University and the Interdisciplinary association for students interested in the Middle East.
