The Embassy of Finland in Beirut and FIME hosted together a roundtable discussion under the title Everyday Peace in conflict-affected societies in Lebanon, Syria and Georgia: Insights for research and practice.
Around twenty scholars and professionals gathered on 11th of May in Beirut to engage in theoretical explorations of everyday peace and reflect on practices and conceptions of ‘ordinary’ people from various communities, to learn from each other, and to build bridges with and between local and international peace-building efforts.
Researchers Dima Smaira (American University of Beirut, FIME resident scholar 2022), Vadim Romashov (Tampere Peace Research Institute), and Armenak Tokmajyan (Carnegie Middle East Center) presented their research findings on peace mediation, security and everyday peace from below. They criticised top-down approaches to peace and conflict resolution based on their findings.
FIME has written a report on the roundtable discussion, which is available to read and download through the link below.
